Developing an “Attitude of a Champion” started at an early age for Darrin, instilled by his mother and reinforced by his four older siblings.  That attitude—with Darrin his whole life—is what this dynamic speaker conveys to corporate employees and sales people as a motivational speaker.

Hard Work Leads To Success

It came as no surprise to anyone that Darrin—who displayed his “Attitude of a Champion” throughout high school—would excel with his hometown University of Miami Hurricanes.  His focus and work ethic made him a team leader on two National Championship teams as well as a two-time All America.

It also came as no surprise that the Dallas Cowboys, in search of a hard-hitting, lightning-quick outside linebacker, would draft Darrin following his stellar career at the “U”. During his four years in Dallas, Darrin became one of the team’s most popular defensive stars, helping the Cowboys win two Super Bowls.

Following his career in Dallas, Darrin was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, and then to the Seattle Seahawks.  He had two outstanding years—again displaying his trademark “Attitude of a Champion” in Seattle—before being released due to salary cap reasons.

The Waiting Game

Of course Darrin and his agent were sure he would be picked up by any number of teams searching for a proven, veteran linebacker.  So they waited.

And waited.  And waited.

Only the lowly New Orleans Saints, which at 3-13 was the worst team in the league, called.  Finally, on the first day of training camp with no other offers pending, Darrin signed with the Saints.  But he soon found himself as a backup linebacker, performing ‘rookie’ assignments, such as playing on special teams.

Rediscovering His Attitude

Getting down on himself—and his situation—Darrin remembered his mom’s lesson of perseverance.  He decided to do whatever was asked of him and give it his best effort.  He decided to again find that “Attitude of a Champion.”

Finishing his 12-year NFL career with the Saints, Darrin used that “Attitude of a Champion” to lead the team in tackles several times during his five years with New Orleans, helping turn the franchise into a winner.

Since his retirement, Darrin’s story of positive thinking, perseverance, focusing on goals and overcoming barriers has been one that corporate employees can easily relate to.

And it all starts with the “Attitude of a Champion.”
